ViraTek, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Richard Hitzelberg. During his more than 30 years of experience in private and university research laboratories, he participated in the development of several inventions to create more productive ways to perform routine tasks, including one patented needle technology. After retiring from George Washington University in 2000, Richard started ViraTek, Inc. with the goal of continuing to develop simple, cost-effective solutions to everyday problems found in research laboratories.
ViraTek’s first invention was the CS2020 Frontline Misting Tunnel to sanitize incoming animal crates, feed bags, bedding bags and supplies. This technology saves time, money and most importantly, eliminates repetitive hand movements of the staff currently hand spraying these items. The Misting Tunnels are easily incorporated into existing buildings as well as new construction. They are affordable, simple to use and have no proprietary parts. The Misting Tunnel has evolved during the last 10 years resulting in the latest models, the LE2020C and LE2828C and their corresponding Pass-Through Doors.
Since the introduction of the Misting Tunnel, ViraTek has introduced several new products such as the Spray Bottle Holder, Wash Off Labels and the Forceps Decon Station. ViraTek, Inc. has just introduced its new line of portable Electrostatic Sprayers for use with any water-based chemicals in laboratories. This patented technology provides complete – 100% coverage of all areas being sprayed and are perfect for room decontamination.
As a SBA certified Small Business as well as a government self-certified Woman Owned Business, the day-to-day operations of ViraTek, Inc. are handled by Richard’s wife, Kathy Hitzelberg.
